January 2017: Food + Favourites!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful



It's the last day of January!
And, although I wish every sunrise this month had been as pretty as the one above, let's be real.
January 2017 has been very grey and cloudy. Let's hope that February brings with it more sunshine, in every sense of the word.

Here's a few things from my January 2017:

 Food: spicy scrambled eggs + beans + toast.
spicy lemon roast chicken with gravy.
lemon yoghurt loaf with lemon buttercream.
golden syrup upside-down cake with custard.
chinese chicken with spicy noodles.
our house roti + white lentil curry + spicy pickles.
microwave potato crisps + fruit.
bengali-style masala roast chicken + oven chips + tomato onion salad.
vanilla greek yoghurt + golden syrup almond granola + stewed apples + maple syrup.
peanut butter + raspberry jam cupcakes.
sweet potato nachos with spring onions, corn and beans.
 bee sting cake with thick vanilla custard.
falafel + pickled red onion and chilles + cucumber with sumac and mint + greek yoghurt with preserved lemons.
 falafel + chilli sauce + greek yoghurt sauce + salad + homemade pitta.
 chimichurri chicken wings + chimichurri.
chimichurri potato salad.
 sesame sriracha brown sugar popcorn.
french fry pizza.
 baked french fries.
spicy battered fried fish + fries + mushy peas + lemon + ketchup.
wholemeal gingerbread pancakes with butter + maple syrup.
spiced chicken and leek pie.
texas chocolate sheet cake with pecans.
harissa meatballs.
harissa meatball pizza with green chilli, red bell pepper and cheddar.
tandoori chicken burgers with sweet chilli mayo.

apple with natural peanut butter.
cream cheese cucumber toast.
avocado berry smoothie.
teriyaki chicken noodle stir-fry.
one-pot lasagna.
spicy sweet potato corn hash + boiled egg + ketchup.
cajun grilled salmon with lemon butter + tomato pulao with peas.
french onion soup + giant cheese toast.
keema pulao with peas and potatoes.

giant chocolate chip cookie with orange zest.
hot fudge sauce.
chicken and vegetable spring rolls.
crinkle chips.

 peppers and onions.
 baked chicken with spices and gram flour.
creamy peppercorn sauce.

Favourites: making a giant pot of kadhi on a monday bank holiday.

these poor cupcakes were put through all the weather elements.
first, with a tonne of wind and here, with a random early morning snow shower.

 snow! a light dusting but still, snow!
 I tried making falafels with dried chickpeas. they turned out really nice and held their shape very well.

 I have been majorly obsessed with these homemade fries this past month. Like, I've actually lost count of how many times we've thrown them in the oven.
the key is a high temperature (220C), a rubber spatula and plenty of time untouched. I think I need to do a full geeky blogpost about these soon.
