When Prophet Yunus (may Allah's peace be upon him) was filled with distress in the belly of the whale, covered by those vast layers of darkness - the darkness of the sea, the darkness of the whale's belly and the darkness of the night - when he was worried and anxious, he turned to Allah, the Almighty, All-Merciful, the One who helps the depressed and rescues the distressed; the One Whose mercy is immense, the One Who accepts repentance, then he spoke those precious words:

"... But he called out through the darkness saying: 'None has the right to be worshipped but You, Glorified are You! Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers'". (Surah Al-Anbiya / The Prophets / Verse 87)

And the response came swiftly, as Allah, the Exalted, says:

"So We answered his call, and rescued him from the distress. And thus do We rescue the believers". (Surah Al-Anbiya / The Prophets / Verse 88)

Allah inspired the whale to throw Yunus out in a deserted area. He came up on to shore sick and weak, but Allah took care of him and bestowed His mercy upon him. He caused a kind of squash plant with broad leaves to grow over him. His health was restored and signs of life began to appear in him.

This is how it is for the one who acknowledges Allah at times of ease - He helps him at times of hardship.
