Rainy Day Biryani + Crispy Chicken Wings + Double Tacos: 7-13 November 2015.

how are you? how was your Monday? mine was pretty cold. it rained so much here over the weekend. but today was much better, alhamdulillah. today, we roasted aubergines, fried sweet potato discs to make crisps and made a sweet, salty veggie filling for a quesadilla dinner tonight. 
sorry for this post being a day late - yesterday was a deliciously slow day.


here's my week:

 Saturday: as the rain poured down outside, we decided to cook a biryani. onions were fried and rice was boiled.
and, drained.
the onions went on for longer, becoming golden brown, crispy and fragrant.
we used lamb mince and potatoes this time, as opposed to chicken mince here.
time to layer!
steam!
and, eat!
for pudding, bread pudding with raisins and custard.
 Sunday: fresh jalebis on a drenched Sunday afternoon to celebrate new beginnings.
in the evening, in the kitchen --> chickepea pulao. to cook, use this recipe and replace the peas with tinned chickpeas.
also, the mother fried chicken wings. she par-boiled them and then marinated them in a cornflour yoghurt batter with spices.
before deep-frying!
and, they were amazing!
Monday: drowning my leftovers in this stuff.

Tuesday: shortbread in mid-prick.

3:46pm.
catching the golden minutes. not hour.

dinner --> spicy salmon parcel + potatoes, carrots and peas curry.
Wednesday: this is what happens when I leave things to cool overnight.

batter + salsa + sauce.

super excited to make these again for all of you!
Thursday: the classic.
battered fish + chips + mushy peas + ketchup.
chopping at dinner.
baked chicken.
ready to assemble.
this was so juicy!
Friday: go-to breakfast --> toast + olive oil spread + scrambled eggs.
weather situation.
dark and very wet.
a day for spicy lamb curry with potatoes.

this time one year ago:
apple pie cookies + autumn sunrises + flourless chocolate cake

lately, on the blog:
pumpkin pie + gingerbread maple cookies + autumn tomato tart

Hi girl, been an avid follower of your blog and love everything you make, i tried your chicken biryani, the one with prunes in it, your numerous chicken and mutton curries and some of those super yumm baked goodies. I am from Bombay btw, and I noticed that you had shown a very non-spicy (almost free of red chilli powder), you didnt feature the recipe but had eaten it with paratha. I had eaten a similar pickle in a hotel in Panchgani. Unfortunately they did not give me the recipe. I have loved that mustard oily, lemony pickle which is pungentish, but not spicy and oh so well balanced that I could write a poem ever since. I cannot seem to find the picture on your blog now. Would you please post some pickle recipes soon.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words! The pickles that I ate with parathas was a carrot pickle. Another one was a homemade one made for us by a family friend - it did not have much oil in it and was so fresh and crunchy. Will try my best with a homemade pickle!

    2. Hi, thats the one I am talking about, it looked crunchy, and the vegetables had retained their original colour. If you can do share the recipe. I think I saw chillies and carrot (guessing no chilli powder). Totally fascinated. Its unbelievable how many items I have made from your blog, your biryanis, chicken curries and kormas have been a hit at home. If someday I do start writing about food, I will have to thank you for all my non-veg items for sure.

    3. So glad you have been enjoying my recipes! The pickle was a gift from a family friend and has already finished - it was that good! Need to get the recipe from her ASAP!
