Chocolate Orange Scones

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

This recipe is for Chocolate Orange Scones. It was a request from my mother who is a huge fan of scones. You can add anything you like to scones, but I like the combination of chocolate and orange which I made here!

A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Self-Raising Flour

2. Butter
3. Sugar
4. Orange Zest
5. Orange Juice
6. Milk
7. Milk Chocolate Chips

Bismillah, let's begin!

Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 6. Grease and line two baking trays.

Sift 1 pound and 9 ounces (700 grams) of self-raising flour into a large mixing bowl.

Add 5 and 1/2 ounces (150 grams) of cubed butter to the flour. I used margarine here which is ok too.

Rub the butter into the flour until it looks like fine breadcrumbs. You can use a mixer or food processor for this if you want.

Add 5 and 1/2 ounces (150 grams) of sugar.

The zest of 2 large oranges

5 and 1/2 ounces (150 grams) of milk chocolate chips. I didn't have any chocolate chips, so I chopped up some milk chocolate. You could more chocolate if you like!

Mix well and set aside.

Take 200 ml of milk.

Add the juice of a large orange.

Mix together.

Pour it into the flour mixture gradually. Mix until the dough comes together. Do not add too much liquid.

Bring the dough together, and place onto a lightly floured surface.

Roll out to a 2 inch thickness.

Cut the scones using a round biscuit cutter, or even a glass. Place the scones onto the baking tray.

Brush them milk all over.

Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown and risen. Serve with butter and hot tea!
