My Mums' Apple Crumble

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

This recipe is for my mums' Apple Crumble. It is most definitely her signature autumn pudding. Now that the days are getting colder and the nights longer, bake a batch of this crumble, and serve with hot custard for a comforting treat!
This recipe will serve 8-10 people.

A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Apples
2. Sugar
3. Water
4. Ground Cinnamon
5. Plain Flour
6. Butter
7. Light Brown Sugar

Bismillah, let's begin!

Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 4.

First, take twelve apples. You can use any apple you like.

Peel and roughly chop the apples, and place into a large saucepan.

Add four tablespoons sugar.

Pour in 1/2 cup water.

Sprinkle in two teaspoons ground cinnamon.

Stir to combine, then bring to the boil. Simmer on a low heat whilst you make the crumble topping.

For the topping, take ten ounces plain flour.

Add two teaspoons ground cinnamon.

Add five ounces sugar.

Add five ounces butter.

Mix everything together, and then rub in the butter with your fingertips until a crumble texture is formed.

By this time, the apple mixture should have softened. My mum likes a more puree consistency but you can have more pieces of apples in it.

Place the apple mixture into an oven dish.

Top with the crumble mixture.

Sprinkle on some golden brown sugar. Bake in the oven at Gas Mark 4 for 40 minutes until bubbling.

Allow to cool slightly before digging in because it will be extremely hot!

Serve with warm vanilla custard, and enjoy!

Wasalaam!
