Potato Hash Browns

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

This recipe is for Potato Hash Browns. They are pan-fried grated potato patties, and are perfect for brunch or for a leisurely weekend breakfast. This recipe makes them crunchy and full of flavour.

A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Potatoes
2. Onion
3. Plain Flour
4. Salt and Pepper
5. Egg White
6. Vegetable Oil

Bismillah, let's start!

First, peel and grate 1 large potato or 4 small potatoes.

Straight away, soak the grated potato in a bowl of cold water for 5 minutes.

Next, take a potato ricer, or use paper towels, to squeeze the excess water out of the grated potato. Make sure you put a little grated potato into the ricer at a time.

Place the dry grated potato into a large bowl.

Add 1/2 grated onion.

Add 1 tablespoon plain flour.

Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

Add 1 egg white.

Stir well to combine.

Heat a few tablespoons vegetable oil into a pan, and add a tablespoon of the potato mixture. Flatten the patties so they are really thin.

Cook the hash browns for 6 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.

Once cooked, drain on paper towels.

Serve straight away!

Serve with spicy omelette and beans for a tasty weekend breakfast!
