Toffee Apple Crumble

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

As winter slowly but surely draws to a close, warm up by baking another hot and sweet crumble. This recipe is a variation on the classic Apple Crumble. By cooking apples in a toffee sauce, and topping with a crunchy crumble, you get a mix of crumble and toffee apples - two of the trademark tastes of winter!

A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Green Apples

2. Water
3. Sugar
4. Butter
5. Golden Syrup
6. Plain flour
7. Demerara Sugar

Bismillah, let's start!

To start, preheat the oven to Gas Mark 4.

Take 6 green apples. I used Granny Smiths.

Peel and slice the apples into chunks.

In a small pan, heat 100 ml water and 8 ounces sugar, and slowly bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat once the sugar has melted, and add 1 ounce butter.

And, add 30 ml golden syrup.

Bring to a boil, and stir constantly.

Turn down the heat, and add the chopped apples.

Cook the apples until just soft.

Place the cooked apples into an ovenproof dish, and set aside.

To make the crumble, place 5 ounces plain flour into a bowl.

Add 5 ounces demerara sugar.

Add 5 ounces of butter, cubed.

Rub the flour, sugar and butter together with your fingertips until they resemble breadcrumbs.

Spoon the crumble mixture over the cooked apples.

Bake the crumble in the preheated oven at Gas Mark 4 for 15 minutes, until golden brown.

Serve warm with hot custard.
