Gingernuts

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

This is yet another biscuit recipe that proves homemade is way better than anything in the shops. 



Once you've tried these, you'll never go back to the packet stuff.
This recipe makes about 20.

A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Butter

2. Golden Syrup
3. Self-Raising Flour
4. Caster Sugar
5. Ground Ginger
6. Bicarbonate of Soda
7. Orange Zest
8. An Egg

Bismillah, let's begin!

First, preheat your oven to Gas Mark 3 / 160C


Place 5 ounces of Butter into a small saucepan.

Next, take some golden syrup. 

Add 3 tablespoons of Golden Syrup to the butter in the saucepan. Heat them together over a very low heat.

Heat the butter and golden syrup together until the butter has melted.
Leave to cool.

Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, sift 12 ounces of Self-Raising Flour

 To the flour, add 7 ounces of Caster Sugar.

The next ingredient is ground ginger.

Add 1 tablespoon of Ground Ginger to the flour and sugar.

The next ingredient is bicarbonate of soda.

Add 1 teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda to the mixing bowl.

Next, you need some grated orange zest. For this, you need an orange and a grater.

Grate about 1 teaspoon of Orange Zest.

Crack 1 Egg into a small bowl.

To the flour mixture, add the melted butter and syrup.

Add the egg.

And add the grated orange zest.

Mix everything together to form a dough.

Shape the dough into balls and place on to a greased baking tray. Flatten the balls slightly with your fingers.
  
Bake the gingernuts in the preheated oven Gas Mark 3 / 160C, for 20 minutes, until golden brown.
Allow them to cool and serve!

Ingredients

·      5 ounces (141 grams) Butter
·      3 tablespoons Golden Syrup
·      12 ounces (340 grams) Self-Raising Flour
·      7 ounces (198 grams) Sugar
·      1 tablespoon Ground Ginger
·      1 teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda
·      1 teaspoon Orange Zest
·      1 Egg

Method

1.   Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 3 / 160C. Grease and line a baking tray.

2.   Place the butter and golden syrup into a small saucepan. Heat on low until they melt. Set aside to cool.

3.   In a mixing bowl, sift the flour. Add the sugar, ground ginger, bicarbonate of soda, orange zest, the egg and the melted butter mixture.

4.   Mix well. Place spoonfuls of the dough onto the baking tray. Flatten slightly.

5.   Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown. Allow the biscuits to cool and then serve!
